Intent
We are committed to creating an environment where students are passionate, engaged and enthusiastic about Public Services. We believe in delivering an educational programme that is inclusive for all, which meets the differing needs of those whom we teach to ensure that all students can fulfil their potential.
It is our aim to offer a broad and balanced curriculum, which has sufficient depth and breadth to enable our pupils to develop their knowledge and understanding of all key concepts related to the public services courses that we offer. We consistently provide a positive learning environment where students are given opportunities to demonstrate attitudes and behaviours that encompass the whole college values (courage, perseverance, hard work, achievement, kindness, respect, pride, aspiration).
We aim to consistently embed a range of wider opportunities and experiences for all, to ensure our learners have an educational experience that is rich and varied. We also want to create opportunities where students can work as part of a team and develop their practical competencies and other skills which will be valuable for their future in this sector.
Implementation
The department believe that students learn best by ‘doing’ and allowing them to take risks in a safe, positive learning environment. Where possible we will try to give students ‘hands on’ practical learning tasks.
The department will provide a high-quality curriculum which is scaffolded to meet learning needs, students develop a broad range of knowledge and understanding of a range of skills needed in the Public services.
Each lesson will have progressive incremental challenge, where students continually develop throughout their learning journey at the college.
These engaging lessons will feature high quality teaching, pupils are challenged no matter what their starting point by developing their leadership, organisation, resilience, and communication skills within a context that is relatable to Public Services.
Impact
- All students at the college will be supported to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.
- Students will have developed a wider knowledge and understanding of the public services and how they operate.
- Students will be provided with a pathway to explore KS5 courses as well as higher education and employment.
- Students will build resilience, have a positive mindset and develop confidence as well as a range of other skills which will help to prepare them for the future.
