Welcome to the Library and Study Centre!
The Library and Study Centre is a quiet and peaceful place for students to sit down to enjoy some reading or spend time completing independent study. Downstairs we have a vast range of books and other resources as well as comfortable seating. At one end of the library, we have our fiction section, which includes titles by J.K. Rowling, David Walliams, Rick Riordan, Michael Morpurgo and Jacqueline Wilson to name just a few. We also stock a range of Manga and Graphic Novels. At the other end of the library, we have our non-fiction section which has a variety of textbooks for each subject and also books with fascinating facts so that the students may extend their learning further.
We are lucky enough to have a section specifically for the Sixth Form to develop and extend their love of reading. This is filled with a wide range of different fiction texts- from classics by authors such as Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde and Thomas Hardy, to modern novels by Richard Osman, Stephen Fry and Samantha Shannon.
Upstairs we have 24 computers, which teachers can book out for their lessons or students can use in their own time to finish homework or other projects.
Every fortnight, Years 7 and 8 will have Wider Reading Lessons in the Library and Study Centre. During these lessons there is a chance to do engage in independent reading, build comprehension skills around a range of text types and genres, and work with the Librarian. Each of these episodes has been carefully designed in order to encourage students to engage with their reading, develop literacy skills and to encourage a love of reading.
The Library and Study Centre is open every day at 8:15am until the start of period 1 and both break times for students to come in and sit quietly reading or doing their work. It is also open after school for Homework Club.
