I hope you have all had a good week. How lovely it has been – despite the pretty miserable weather – to feel that the mornings and evenings are getting lighter!
Exams news: Year 11 and 13 Performing Arts exams on Wednesday and Thursday evening went really well. Students were outstanding and have now banked one unit towards their final exams through delivering such a high-quality practical exam performance. A big thank you to Mrs Bellamy and Mr Bottomley for all the preparation and support they have given the students and to the students themselves for performing at such a high level.
Both GCSE RS classes have had a talk from Luke Wathen from the Smiles Foundation on his missionary work in Romania this week. The Smiles Foundation work with children and gypsy communities, supporting their education and healthcare and therefore bring a smile to the faces of those in poverty, which will support our students in being able to discuss the work of missionaries in their exam. What an incredible opportunity and thank you to the RS staff for organising it.
Year 11 had their second Elevate session this week, which they engaged with brilliantly. Chatting to some of them they commented on how Elevate were giving the same messages as their teachers and parents/carers about the importance of revision etc, so let’s hope if they’re hearing it from more voices they’ll start to really listen and revise!
Sporting news this week is brief due to the number of fixtures being cancelled due to the appalling wet weather, but one fixture that did happen was our year 7 netballers who competed in the end of season tournament against all the South Devon school and did fantastically well. One team came 1st and one came 4th. What a great way to finish the season. A huge well done.
Thank you to the parents who attend involved in the UCAS Applicant Support Evening for our sixth form parents/carers; we hope you found it really helpful.
Our Spanish trip gets back tonight at 10.45pm and by the sounds of it and from looking at our social media, it’s been a great trip and lovely and sunny. Well done to all our students and a huge thank you to our staff for giving up their week to take them, it’s an amazing experience and one they won’t forget.
A big thank you to all our students who turn up in the correct uniform and with a coat to protect them in this weather – it is really noticeable and appreciated – you are role models for those who sometimes don’t quite get it right!
Have a lovely weekend. Let’s hope the rain stops.
Take care,
Amy
