Dear parents/carers,
Thank you to all those parents/carers who attended the Ivy Education Trust Music event last night at Newton Abbot College. It was great to see children from year 2 to 10 participate in such a creative evening and inspiring to listen to all the songs they had written themselves about their local area. It always takes such courage to perform, even more so perhaps with your own creation, but there was courage in abundance last night. A huge well done to our year 9 GCSE Music group who represented Newton Abbot College. The three songs you performed were heartfelt and beautifully devised.
We welcomed Tony Smith, Chair of the Ivy Education Trust, to NAC yesterday. He visits every term and catches up with students and staff. He was so impressed by the students he met with, in particular their eloquence, honesty and how much they clearly enjoy being at NAC. Thank you to those students for giving up their time to meet with Tony; you represented NAC brilliantly!
Our year 11s were once again competing on the national stage this week with our boys rugby 7s team travelling to Rosslyn Park to take part in the prestigious national 7’s competition. Their conduct was exemplary from start to finish and they were great ambassadors for the college – as well as on the pitch where they showed our college values in abundance and scored some exceptional tries. On Monday we once again welcomed students from our local feeder primary schools to sample some football, rugby and netball after college here at NAC. Our own year 7 & 8 girls today have had a chance to sample a sport they might not have tried before with Newton Abbot Rugby Club coming in to deliver some girls rugby sessions. It is great to be developing our links with local sports teams to develop our students’ love of sport both inside and out of college.
Wednesday saw us host our annual Careers Fair which is open to the public as well as our students, and is a great opportunity to find out more about local careers and apprenticeships, and different job pathways. All our students in years 8-11 had an opportunity to visit the fair during the college day and it was great to see so many students asking so many questions and thinking so positively about their next steps. A huge thank you to all the local business and educational institutions who had a stall at the fair, and to the team of CSW and NAC staff who organised it.
On Wednesday evening our year 13 Drama students completed their final coursework component, displaying as they have done throughout their entire course, what talented performers they are as they took to the stage to share their final pieces. A huge well done to all of them, and we wish them luck for their final exam in a few weeks. Our year 11 students have been completing their mock speaking exams this week in both Spanish and French and their approach to it has really impressed the MFL team. They have been punctual, have clearly revised and prepared, and most importantly have given it their best – well done to all those who have completed their exam so far – and good luck to those who will next week. Next week is also when Year 11 will be collecting their mock exam results which will give them a very clear indication of how well they are doing and the areas they need to be revising over the Easter holidays.
Next Tuesday we are hosting our KS3 and KS4 Headteacher Commendation events. We are continuing to see the number of students who are eligible to attend this event increase which is testament to how our students body value their learning, value their community and embody our college values each and every day. It is always the highlight of my term; and every student who has been invited should feel incredibly proud of their invitation and what it represents – as a staff body we are exceptionally proud of them. We will also be recognising best effort, achievement and improvement across all subjects in our Subject Awards that are awarded in assemblies next week.
Have a lovely weekend.
Amy
