Dear parents/carers,
We have had a very busy week of exams and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the Year 11 students for the way they have conducted themselves. We have had excellent attendance at our morning breakfast workshops and students have shown real perseverance and maturity in the exam halls. Feedback from exam invigilators has been full of praise. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our amazing staff for their support and preparation and also to you at home for the support and encouragement you are giving. Although we still have three more weeks of exams, this has been a really positive start to the process.
A Level exams have also started this week and we could not be prouder of how our Year 13 students are rising to this challenge. Breakfast is being provided for Year 13s every morning throughout the exam season and they can come and help themselves from 07.45 to either fuel a morning revision session or to set themselves up for an exam. Please encourage your child to take advantage of this. As we start to approach the end of the sixth form journey for our Year 13s we would like to invite you to ‘save the date’ for their graduation which will take place on the afternoon of 28th June – more details to follow soon.
More summer-like weather at the end of this week has meant that we have managed to compete in some summer sports. Our under 13 Boys Cricket A&B teams competed at the South Devon Cricket tournament. Our B team competed well winning two of their games and our A team were superb – going unbeaten on the day and progressing through to the Devon finals. Today we have a number of our Athletes at the South Devon Trials so we hope they have been successful and progressed to represent the area at the Devon Champs.
This week our year 10 prefect team have received their ties and are now ‘officially’ prefects, taking on the responsibility of being our student leadership team for years 7-11 in the college. It’s been great to see them wearing their new ties with pride; and we look forward to seeing them represent the college and the student body over the next year. A huge well done and congratulations to all of them.
A large number of year 10 students have submitted their Sports Captains applications this week. Yet again, the level of application this year has been outstanding and a very tough selection process now begins for the PE department.
We hosted a very successful Welcome Evening on Monday with our new year 7 students-to-be and their parents/carers to start their transition process from year 6 into year 7. It was lovely to see the DCA so packed, and to see our current year 7 students talk so confidently about their transition, their year 7 experience and our Bude Residential in front of two large audiences. Looking ahead to our new cohort is always really exciting; and we can’t wait to see their contribution to our college community.
A big well done to our students who took part in the prestigious Ten Tors challenge at the weekend. There were very warm conditions, but the boys did an amazing job and should be very proud of their accomplishments. Please check out social media pages for photos of the event.
Our Duke of Edinburgh bronze qualifier expedition takes place today and they have certainly struck lucky with the dry weather. We wish them all lots of luck; and a big thank you to the staff and volunteers who help make these expeditions happen.
We’d like to thank you for taking the time to check with your child for room changes during the exam period; it has made a noticeable difference this week.
We have our outdoor Summer Sessions Concert (hopefully outside in the sunshine) on the 23rd May where you will be treated to a range of musical pieces from our Arts students. It’s a 6.30pm start in the Sixth Form Gardens – Dyrons Site. £4 without food, £7 with food.
Have a lovely weekend.
Amy
