I’d like to start by saying how wonderful our Sixth Form students were who represented us at our Sixth Form open evening on Wednesday this week. The evening was a great success and the students did themselves proud, showing parents around, answering questions from year 11 students and sharing their passion for the subjects they are studying.
Our Ten Tors team had their first practice walk last weekend and sadly the weather was predictably awful! However, despite the pouring rain and strong winds, the group did brilliantly, and the Moorland Leader couldn’t speak highly enough of them. This will be the first year we have had two teams entered for the Ten Tors event in a few years, so we are looking forward to watching their progress.
In sport we have had another really great week. Year 9 rugby won their first 15-a-side match against Teign 65-5 scoring a phenomenal number of tries. They showed great team spirit and achieved an amazing result. Our year 11s unfortunately lost their semi-final against Kingsbridge despite a great team effort in very, very adverse weather conditions. The year 9 and 10 hockey central league got off to a great start, winning two matches, drawing one and narrowly losing one. And finally, our year 7 netball team continues to develop, winning two and losing one of their matches.
A huge well done to our year 11 and 13 Performing Arts students this week who have all taken part in their performance exams. Both days went very well and it was a delight to hear how professionally and skilfully they showcased their talents.
Today we had a superb response to our two-minute silence for Remembrance. I felt very proud seeing the school in collective silence showing their respect; and it was lovely to see our students who are cadets, scouts and guides looking so smart in their uniforms.
Next week sees the end of our first reading programme cycle, so a number of year groups will be finishing their reading book. Please do ask them about it to find out how they have found the experience and explore if any sequels or books by same author are available that they would like to read.
Next week is National Anti-Bullying week. Please can we remind you that students have access to CONFIDE, their tutor and both of their Heads of Learning if they need to talk. If anything comes up following tutor time anti-bullying discussions next week, please remind your child we’re here to help if they need to talk anything through.
Next week we have our Assessment Week assemblies with all students in years 7-10 which will explain how Assessment Week itself will run in the week of the 20th November. This will be new to some year groups and their parents/carers, so please do have a look at the recent emails that have come home about it.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Take care,
Mrs Grashoff,
Headteacher
