Rewards & sanctions

ClassCharts

Newton Abbot College uses ClassCharts to record students’ behaviour points, both positive and negative.  Students and parents/carers can download the ClassCharts app to their phone and other devices in order to:

  • Reflect on the students’ achievements and behaviour.
  • Use positive points to buy things from our ClassCharts Reward Shop
  • See assigned homework tasks and check submission deadlines
  • View timetabled lessons for the day/week
  • Track any sanctions that have been put in place, such as detentions

Students will receive their ClassCharts code from their tutor. As parents/carers you will receive your ‘parent’ code via the email you have registered with the college. This code will look similar to the example code shown on the right.

If you do not have your code please contact the college on info@nacollege.devon.sch.uk.

The features of the app we use are:

  • Behaviour
  • Homework
  • Detentions
  • Timetable
  • Classes

For further help with these features please use this guide from ClassCharts.

Behaviour

Staff can award students both positive and negative behaviour points. When awarded, the behaviour will appear in the student’s behaviour stream on the app. To help the tracking and monitoring of behaviours over time you can amend the date range to have a focus on a day, week or month. Positive postcards have also come back this year to recognise positive behaviour.

Homework

When students are set homework, teachers will assign it to students via ClassCharts which will include instructions on what needs to be completed along with any links and files needed. Due dates will be set, giving students the opportunity to plan when they will complete homework. As parents/carers you would be able to track not just when homework is assigned, but when it has been completed and also if it has been submitted on time.

Rewards shop

Our rewards shop is there to promote positive behaviour throughout the college day. The store has a range of items available, from equipment to revision guides and vouchers for the Cinema and Amazon. We also offer bespoke rewards to our Year 11 graduates where they can earn positive points to contribute to their prom ticket, even potentially saving enough to get a free ticket.

Detentions

Students will not always get everything right. On ClassCharts, if a behaviour warrants it students can be sanctioned with a detention. To support students in completing this sanction, within the ClassCharts app, students and parents/carers will be able to track when, where and for how long a detention is and if it has been completed successfully.

Celebrating success

Every half term each year group has a celebrations assembly where students are rewarded for their hard work, effort and how they demonstrate our college values. As well as this there are termly subject awards for effort, improvement and achievement. Any student that has no negative ClassCharts points is rewarded at the end of each term with a fun activity such as inflatables, cinema trips and much more.

Please see our behaviour policy (click here) for more details on Rewards & Sanctions at the college.
