Our curriculum booklets are used across the college in many subjects as a fantastic teaching tool that provides students with a high quality learning resource that they can later use to revise with and to recall their learnt knowledge.
They are developed by our expert practitioners and are used to adaptively teach students of all abilities. They allow us to signpost key elements of the curriculum, making knowledge and procedures explicit, whilst providing students with many opportunities to deliberately apply and practice their learning. Our booklets include opportunities to read aloud, expand on vocabulary and practice exam style questions.
Our ‘accountable talk stems’ support students and offer the opportunity for higher quality discussions, provide models for formal presentation skills and improve the depth and accuracy of peer assessment. Our aim is to put active and purposeful communication into the hands of students and to develop their oracy skills so that they can all confidently articulate their thinking.
Our booklets are underpinned by the teaching of tier two and three vocabulary that is put into the context of the topic being learnt. Literacy is at the heart of our booklets and regardless of the subject, we all practice improving our reading skills through the use of reading rulers. Literacy skills, whether reading, writing, spelling, speaking or expanding our vocabulary, are constantly integrated into lessons and referred to in our booklets.
We use reading rulers to model the process of following the lines as we read aloud and this also helps students to stay on track and be actively involved in their learning.
Most importantly, our booklets are designed to bring the best knowledge to the forefront of our students’ learning and to support students with owning their knowledge.
